Case description
Around 9:00 p.m. on 30 November 1970, a husband and wife outdoors at the Gulf Canada tank farm near highway mile 1024 reported a large blue ball with a trailing blue streak crossing the clear sky. They likened its colour to an acetylene torch. It moved from the south toward the northern or northwestern horizon, illuminating the countryside exceptionally brightly. Their estimate was about thirty seconds, with the narrow tail stretching across roughly half the visible sky.
About thirty seconds after its disappearance, they heard a loud boom followed by rumbling reports. Other witnesses near Macintosh Lodge described a brilliant flash followed after a delay by explosions; their estimates of timing and distance differed. Police recorded one observer's alcohol consumption as a qualification, while separately noting the standing of other witnesses. Residents of Haines Junction and Destruction Bay also reported light through their windows.
The RCMP titled its report “Sightings of Meteors or Fireballs.” An estimated impact seventy-five miles away was a witness inference, not radar contact or a verified crash site. A later claim of vapour clouds was not independently corroborated in the file. The report contains no occupants, structured vehicle or recovered material. Its fireball character and delayed booms are central to the account, and the illustration shows that reported atmospheric phenomenon rather than an alien craft.
