Case description
The 26 November date in this imported entry appears to follow a military signal recording 26 November at 01:45 Z. The related statements describe the previous local evening,25 November 1970, at approximately 21:40 Atlantic Standard Time. This is part of the same Shelburne County file as the Smith brothers’ Bear Point report, not secure evidence for a second night’s encounter.
Corporal Timothy Daniel Nielson described four reddish-orange lights in a perfectly straight, evenly spaced line toward the northwest, inclined about twenty degrees with the most southerly light highest. His signed statement locates him near the Port La Tour school; the police summary places his observation at Smithville. Carole June Smith and her mother Cathelene Mary also reported four lights just above trees, one temporarily extinguishing. Cathelene said they sank behind the trees after roughly thirty seconds. June had left to call her father before the lights disappeared.
Police considered these accounts similar to the brothers’ report but noted that the vantage points were approximately twenty miles apart and the observed configurations differed. The named corporal was a Canadian Forces member, not an RCMP officer. No observer resolved occupants or a connecting craft structure, and estimates of light size and distance were unmeasured. The plate selects the four-light group and labels the UTC/local-date distinction, keeping it separate from the brothers’ five-or-six-light scene and its claimed car effects.
