Open this case in the interactive AtlasCase description
On March 19, 1967, at about 11 p.m., a motorist leaving Mortemart, Haute-Vienne, stopped to watch a light moving silently toward the southeast. Over approximately ten minutes it appeared to stop several times and vary in brightness. The witness could not confidently determine that it was disc-shaped. It eventually disappeared at the horizon.
After resuming his journey, he noticed a reddish glow passing at low altitude behind the car. A few kilometres farther on, he saw an internally illuminated dome that appeared to be on the ground about twenty metres from the road. He stopped, but he and his wife were alarmed and drove home despite their son's interest. No further witness account was collected.
This was a delayed report. The witness initially could not give the exact date, then supplied March 19 in a telephone conversation and associated radio reports with La Chapelle-Taillefert. The archived summary also associates the evening with a referendum; that contextual claim is not independently verified here. GEIPAN described the distant phenomenon as unusual and not matching a standard misidentification. The preserved French text contains damaged accented characters.
