Case description

At approximately 00:45 on 5 February 1976, a woman looking from her bedroom window reportedly noticed alternating red and white lights and put on her glasses. She woke her husband. The gendarmerie statements substantially expand GEIPAN’s short Châteaurenard summary: the wife described an inverted-saucer shape topped by a pink-lit cabin containing two humanlike silhouettes, resembling men in diving suits. She estimated her observation at about two minutes. The wife initially placed it five or six metres from the window, while her husband estimated twenty-five metres from the house and fifteen metres above ground. He described blurred outlines because he had recently injured his left eye, and a pale pink-violet luminous upper section. The object reportedly rocked or tilted, steadied and moved away very slowly toward the south-southeast without noise. Neither claimed it landed. These are differing personal estimates, not independently measured dimensions or a resolved view of alien anatomy. The husband reported the matter that morning, and both gave separate statements. Investigators examined the house surroundings, cultivated land, fruit orchards and cypress hedges; vegetation was undamaged and no unusual traces were found. Neighbors and a railway crossing keeper supplied no corroboration. GEIPAN retains category C, insufficient reliable information. The full statements supply a duration and more shape detail missing from the summary, but do not resolve the distance disagreement. The plate shows the couple, complete reported shape and two indistinct suited silhouettes together, without inventing faces or equipment.
