Case description
This Nançay, France, entry records a fabricated abduction story that became the subject of a gendarmerie inquiry. The alleged event was placed in the Vierzon forest on January 21, 1980, at about 9 a.m.; that is the date claimed in the story, not evidence that a taking occurred.
The authorities learned of the allegation on February 22 through Special Dernière, issue 572, covering February 15–21. Its subject was identified as the husband of a restaurateur. GEIPAN's account says the investigation rapidly established that the episode had been invented, and that the man acknowledged the fabrication. The agency describes the motive as publicity.
GEIPAN classifies the case A and identifies the phenomenon as a hoax. The encounter label in this Atlas preserves the type of claim originally made alongside that explicit outcome. A forest illustration represents the story's setting; it should not be read as a reconstruction of an established alien encounter.
