Virginia entity encounter — March 12, 1967

On March 12, 1967, four boys aged nine to twelve were riding a snowmobile near Palo, Minnesota, at about 2:15 p.m. The HUMCAT case card names Bob and John Kangas, Mike Kauppi and Scott Mackay. They reportedly noticed an intense light coming from an abandoned hay shed in an open field and another light beam approximately a hundred yards away. Near the second beam, the boys saw five small black moving forms, described as roughly three to four feet high. Four occupied the points of a diamond, with the fifth in the centre. The forms appeared to glide across deep snow toward the beam. When they reached it, both the forms and the light allegedly faded from sight. The boys went to a nearby house visibly frightened. Two impressions of an unidentifiable shape were reportedly found later; their nature and cause were not established by the summary. This source corrects two misleading compressions in the imported record. Virginia, Minnesota, was investigator Annette J. Boyer’s home town, while the case card places the sighting at Palo. It also describes lights and moving black objects without giving a discernible landed vehicle or anatomical features. Boyer’s May 5 letter to NICAP and an April 1967 Erie Mining Company newspaper item are cited. The plate therefore shows the four children, beams and unresolved forms, with no invented spacecraft or alien faces.
