On 10 October 1991 around 21:30, numerous witnesses across all departments of southwestern France saw a very bright white light moving rapidly with a substantial trail for a few seconds. Its direction was generally reported as north to south. Some also heard a loud explosion accompanying it. A local newspaper article prompted many witnesses to come forward.
GEIPAN considers the characteristics most consistent with a large atmospheric-entry event, probably natural given the reported direction.
