METZ (57) 07.09.1997

On September 7, 1997, at about 2 a.m., a couple watching fireworks saw a stationary light to their right. A second couple in another municipality made a simultaneous observation. One witness filmed the phenomenon, interpreting it as very close and approximately ten metres above the ground. The joint gendarmerie–SEPRA investigation identified the Moon under cloudy conditions and what the preserved summary calls the beginning of an eclipse. That eclipse wording is retained as the archive's assessment, not independently verified astronomy.
