BELIS (40) --.04.1998

GEIPAN’s Bélis file records a woman’s account of an afternoon observation in April 1998 outside her holiday home in the Landes. She reported it on October 18, 2013, more than fifteen years later. The exact day was no longer known: an April 1 catalogue value is a placeholder, not an established encounter date. A persistent shadow reportedly led her to look upward around 2 p.m. She described a silent, slowly moving black round object above the house, stopping in front of her at an estimated height of three or four metres. Two fairly young men sat one behind the other in its cockpit. They wore simple white helmets without visors. She said the object then travelled west over the trees. The description is of human-looking occupants, not evidence identifying their origin. No additional testimony was collected. GEIPAN classified the case C, citing insufficient precise information, the long reporting interval and possible memory distortion. The unknown date prevented useful comparison with other observations. The plate includes the woman, complete round object and two ordinary helmeted men seated in tandem. Craft construction, clothing, likenesses and the holiday-home setting are illustrative; the picture is not contemporary evidence.
