On 1 February 1999 shortly after 07:00, about 12 witnesses in 2 departments of southeastern France saw a large luminous ball with sparks trailing behind it pass at high speed and disappear. It was silent and lasted only a few seconds. GEIPAN considers the descriptions consistent with a probable atmospheric entry.
