On 25 July 1999 at 05:30, 2 gendarmes on duty saw a red and green ball of fire pass very rapidly, leaving a smoke trail, while observing from their vehicle. Several other witnesses subsequently came forward, and the press reported the event. It was very probably an atmospheric entry of a meteoroid, termed a meteorite in the source, or space debris.
