On the mornings of 2, 3 and 5 October 2007 in Libourne (33), people found rings of black deposits in their lawns that had appeared overnight. They measured 5.80–10 m across and about 30 cm wide.
The gendarmerie and GEIPAN collected samples. Analysis by the mycology department of Toulouse's Faculty of Pharmacy identified an exceptional formation of myxomycetes of the genus Badhamia. The source describes these organisms as fungus-like and intermediate between the animal and plant kingdoms.
