On the evening of 21 March 2009 at Saint-Paul, a witness had their photograph taken beneath a clear, cloudless sky. On viewing the digital image, they noticed a puzzling white patch in the sky. Nothing had been seen directly when the photograph was taken. GEIPAN favors an insect, or possibly a small bird, passing close to the subject during the flash exposure. An insect would have been brightly illuminated by the flash. GEIPAN classifies the case B: an insect probably passed through the camera's field of view.
