PARIS (75) 09.09.2009

On 9 September 2009 in Paris, a luminous orange ball was observed moving and changing direction. GEIPAN assesses the case as low in strangeness and notes features of sky lanterns: orange color, a flame-like appearance and initial movement with the northeasterly wind, recorded at 19–50 km/h. The account is very brief and gives neither the precise observation point nor viewing directions. Gusts could possibly explain the erratic motion, but GEIPAN cannot substantiate that explanation or model wind gusts within the city. The incomplete case is classified C for insufficient information to reach a conclusion.
