At 22:30 on 15 September 2012, a witness looking through his open bathroom window in Villeurbanne (69) saw many multicoloured non-flashing points forming a trapezium-like shape. It seemed stationary, as large as a tall building, at a height compared with a helicopter's flight. He took photographs. It disappeared while he looked away. GEIPAN assessed the strangeness as low: the phenomenon was stationary, long-lasting and faint, with a possible but unconfirmed explanation. Evidential strength was moderate: a single witness, photographs that did not match his description, and an investigation conducted long after the event. GEIPAN classified the case C for lack of corroboration such as other witnesses, good-quality photographs or notices of light displays. A projected-light event was the most probable hypothesis, but could not be confirmed.
