Case description
In May 2015, GEIPAN received an account of a sighting in Athis-Mons on 16 September 2012. At about 23:30 that evening, a witness saw several white points of light move silently across the sky. He observed this on 3 occasions, always along the same path. No other account was obtained. GEIPAN considers luminous balls crossing the sky in a few minutes on a weekend night strongly suggestive of sky lanterns, probably released nearby during a private party. The witness's video also shows the lights disappearing successively, which GEIPAN regards as characteristic of lantern burners running out. The case is classified B: probable sky lanterns.
