[D996] DE SAUXILLANGES (63) VERS COLLANGES (63) 23.09.2012

On 23 September 2012 at 17:05, a driver and his partner saw several round lights appear and disappear among clouds. No other account was collected. They were travelling south-southwest (see map). Météociel records at Clermont-Ferrand show a strong southerly wind and substantial cloud cover. GEIPAN considered metallic balloons reflecting sunlight. Moving against the car’s direction with the wind, they could appear nearly stationary. The day and time fit a release after a celebration or sporting event. Although consistent with the account, the balloon hypothesis could not be corroborated. The case is classified C for insufficient confirming information.
