On 24 October 2012 at 19:50, a woman driving a car noticed a luminous phenomenon moving rapidly across the sky through her windshield. A bright white light followed a descending path and disappeared after a few seconds. She then made out a shape, after which the light gradually reappeared on an ascending path before vanishing for good behind a hill. No sound was heard. Only 1 account was collected.
To answer her question about whether others had reported the event, GEIPAN searched for similar accounts in the Grenoble region at the same date and time, without success.
The objective evidence in the attached investigation report shows that the UAP's physical characteristics and movement fit poorly with an aircraft, helicopter, drone or fireball. A windshield reflection could, however, have produced the same scene. Without corroboration, additional accounts or photographs, GEIPAN cannot determine its nature.
The evidence is moderate: a precise but brief account of a 10–15 second sighting, from a single witness driving, with no photograph. Strangeness is moderate because the appearance and behavior are unusual but could have conventional explanations.
The case is classified C: insufficient information.
