On 5 December 2012 around 21:45 in La Rochelle (17), a witness at home on the 6th floor saw a very bright phenomenon in a clear sky, concealing a dark-coloured “craft.” It remained stationary for about 10 minutes without audible sound, then disappeared. No other account was collected. GEIPAN considers the observation quite strange and finds it surprising that only 1 person reported it in a densely populated city. Following a gendarmerie investigation that carefully checked with aviation and security authorities, GEIPAN wanted to investigate on site with the witness, but he declined. Because that investigation could not proceed, GEIPAN classifies the case C for insufficient information.
