CARBONNE (31) 12.12.2012

On 12 December 2012 at about 07:00, a witness in Carbonne (31) heard a dull sound, then saw a luminous phenomenon followed by a rapidly passing blue or yellow ball. No trail was visible. GEIPAN finds the description strongly suggestive of a large fireball: an intense light lasting a few seconds with a sound. The date was close to the Geminid meteor-shower peak. BOAM reported many such recordings then, but its cameras were in northern France and probably did not capture this event south of Toulouse. GEIPAN classifies the case B: fireball, probably from the Geminid shower.
