[AERO ARA] BLANGY-LE-CHATEAU (14) 07.01.2013

On 7 January 2013 at about 22:50 UTC, 23:50 local time, an Airbus A340 pilot reported what he thought was space debris entering the atmosphere. The account also gives the observation time as about 22:46, near coordinates 049°10′54″ / 000°18′53″, around Deauville. GEIPAN links it to a simultaneous report at Col de l’Escrinet in Ardèche (07). Further accounts appeared in the press in January 2013. The accounts strongly suggest re-entering satellite debris, possibly from Iridium 33. The case is classified B: probable atmospheric re-entry.
