A witness on a chairlift on the Bauge-facing slope saw a dull-grey cigar-shaped object moving slowly near the zenith along a straight northwest-to-southwest path. He made the same observation twice within 30 minutes. No other account was collected.
GEIPAN notes that both sightings occurred within half an hour under identical conditions. An airliner fits the overall observation for 2 main reasons: the witness said he did not see the aircraft that was directly in his field of view, and the description matches its shape, colour and movement.
However, the second sighting could not be characterized. According to the witness’s times, the Airbus A320 had already passed and could not have been in the same place again. A second aircraft, perhaps military and therefore not tracked by Flightradar24, may have used the same air route.
Following investigation, site visits, an interview with the witness and a search for other witnesses through the press, GEIPAN classifies the case B: probable observations of aircraft.
