At 5:30 a.m. on January 17, 2013, a motorist travelling from Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône toward Fos-sur-Mer noticed a large rectangular-looking object with green and red lights above the road. She slowed and photographed it with her mobile telephone. No additional witness account was collected. A documented investigation found that a military transport aircraft had taken off from Istres toward the northwest shortly before the sighting, then turned south and crossed the witness's road at relatively low altitude.
