Case description
The Halluin (59) title gives 3 February 2013, whereas the French narrative gives Saturday 2 March 2013 at 19:00. Two people saw luminous orange, round but slightly flattened objects pass above their home. They appeared in 2 stages 5 minutes apart, over 10 minutes in total, moving silently southeast to northeast before disappearing aloft. No photographs were taken.
GEIPAN considers the round, flattened, bright orange objects, seen singly and then in groups of 3 below an overcast sky on a Saturday evening, strongly suggestive of sky lanterns. It attributes their apparently large size to closeness. Lille Météociel data showed a variable northeast-to-east wind, not exactly aligned with the movement. Mont d'Halluin, 30 m above the plain, might have deflected the low-flying objects.
GEIPAN considers this sufficient for classification B: probable observation of sky lanterns.
