Case description
On 17 February 2013 at about 19:50, a witness and his wife saw 4 orange-red lights aligned above Ham. They moved slowly and silently towards the couple. More identical lights appeared during the roughly 10-minute observation.
GEIPAN telephoned to clarify direction. The witness was entering Ham eastward, and the lights approached from his 1 o’clock direction. They crossed the road almost overhead and disappeared behind sugar-factory buildings north of it. Their course was therefore east/southeast to west/northwest, although the detailed written account gives a different direction.
That movement matches the southeasterly wind measured at Albert. The orange-red colour, grouping and identical paths also support sky lanterns.
GEIPAN classifies the case B: observation of sky lanterns.
