RIEDISHEIM (68) 09.03.2013

On 9 March 2013 at 23:15, a witness on a terrace in Riedisheim was intrigued by several yellow luminous balls passing silently through the sky. GEIPAN considers the report characteristic of Thai sky lanterns: yellow lights, more often described as yellow-orange, moving in more or less organised groups with the local wind, crossing the sky in a few minutes on a Saturday evening in an urban area. The source describes the wind as southwest to west and refers to Infoclimat records. Because the case was of low strangeness and the neighbourhood densely populated, GEIPAN did not consider it reasonable to search for the person who released them. Although the witness did not confirm the explanation, GEIPAN found nothing in the account that contradicted it. The case is classified B: probable sky lanterns.
