MARSEILLE (13) 31.03.2013

On 31 March 2013 at about 21:20 in Marseille, 3 people saw an intensely bright orange object move silently from the west over their home, turn right and disappear southeast. Only 1 of the 3 submitted an account. The reported direction from Salon-de-Provence towards Aubagne–Cassis, northwest to southeast, matches the wind recorded at Marignane. GEIPAN considers the orange colour, silent movement over a few minutes with the wind and holiday-evening timing characteristic of a sky lantern. Because strangeness was low, it did not seek the person who released it. The case is classified B: probable sky lantern.
