On 3 May 2013 at about 16:45, a witness (T1) on a school forecourt in Nice (06) saw light sources arranged in a triangle moving slowly eastward. He drew another person's attention to them. Both watched for 30–40 minutes while returning to their respective homes. No further accounts were collected.
GEIPAN considers the shape, appearance and brightness comparable to a cluster of Mylar balloons drifting with the wind at high altitude, with slow movement in calm air; see the attached investigation report. It classifies the case as B: probable observation of a group of Mylar balloons.
The account has good evidential strength and is precise and detailed. Both eyewitnesses submitted accounts, but no photographs are available, although one was taken, and there are no videos. GEIPAN judges the unusualness low because ordinary objects can take on an unfamiliar appearance under some conditions. It reiterates classification B: probable Mylar balloons.
