NEMOURS (77) 10.05.2013

On 10 May 2013 at 22:30, 3 people on a terrace in Nemours saw a dark fluorescent-orange light with red around it move across the sky. One photographed it and filmed for 40 seconds as it receded. Seven or 8 minutes later, a second light came from the same direction and disappeared at exactly the same point. The witness filmed it for about 1 minute. The single detailed account describes no trail and strongly suggests sky lanterns probably released at a celebration. The videos support this hypothesis (see the YouTube links in the questionnaire). Southwest-to-northeast travel matches the southwest-to-south wind recorded at Melun (see the weather record). The source describes lanterns as 50 cm–1 m in size and flying at altitudes of 50–300 m, without specifying an altitude datum. The case is classified B: probable sky lantern passages.
