PIGNANS (83) 03.06.2013

On 3 June 2013 around 23:30, a witness and his wife in Pignans saw stationary lights forming a triangle and thought they were seeing an aircraft. As the lights approached, the witness distinguished a dark, flat shape between them. Only 1 account was obtained. GEIPAN initially considered the case unusual enough to commission a field investigation. The investigation found very strong evidential support: 2 non-independent witnesses, a poor-quality video leaving no doubt that a phenomenon had been seen, and a good estimate of its apparent path. Its strangeness proved low because the behaviour matched several familiar types of flying craft. Despite some unexplained points discussed in the investigation report, GEIPAN found the appearance consistent with a group of helicopters, described in the summary as the probable explanation.
