During the night of 8–9 June 2013 at about 01:00, a driver watched pale light effects move silently through a cloudy night sky for several minutes. Only 1 account was collected. GEIPAN considers the description strongly suggestive of a light display, possibly a laser, of the kind nightclubs use to advertise their presence. Another witness saw the same phenomenon in the same place during the night of 22–23 June. Saturday-to-Sunday nights are particularly common for such displays, and the cloudy weather recorded by Météociel favours a strong effect. The description resembles a multiple-beam searchlight, such as the example in the video ‘Wedding searchlight hire Nottingham’. GEIPAN did not investigate the specific source that night, but Le Coyote nightclub in Saint-Élix-le-Château often uses this equipment and is considered a very probable source. The case is classified B: very probable observation of a multiple-beam searchlight display.
