QUINCY-SOUS-SENART (91) 09.06.2013

On 9 June 2013 at 20:09, several people in Quincy-sous-Sénart (91) watched 2 polygonal objects move together silently in a cloudy sky. They maintained constant separation as they rose and gradually disappeared into clouds. The witness's street-facing façade points east-southeast, while the living-room window toward the garden faces west-northwest. From that window the objects moved right to left toward the Forêt de Sénart, to the left and southwest. GEIPAN therefore reconstructs movement from north or northeast toward south or southwest. The witness instead reported east-to-west travel, which would have taken the objects above the house. Orly recorded wind from the north at 20:00 and northeast at 21:00, compatible with the reconstructed movement of helium-filled balloons drifting in the wind. The shapes fit balloon designs sold at fairs and fêtes, common on Sundays in June. GEIPAN considered the low unusualness insufficient to justify a detailed search for whoever released the probable party balloons. The case is classified as B: probable observation of party balloons.
