Case description

On 14 June 2013 at 23:00, a witness in his courtyard saw 2 orange lights pass one after the other. GEIPAN considers red lights moving slowly and silently on a weekend evening suggestive of sky lanterns. Météociel records for Blagnac show a light northwesterly wind. As the lights appeared in the north, GEIPAN considers eastward drift logical. CalSky shows the ISS shortly before 23:00 on a very similar path, but the time does not appear to fit. The ISS usually looks white or yellow, rarely orange, and it would not explain a second similar object immediately afterwards. Departing Toulouse-Blagnac aircraft are another possibility; with northwesterly wind, arrivals approach from south of Toulouse. However, flashing aircraft lights should have been noticed. GEIPAN classifies the case B: probable sky lanterns.
