PARIS (75) 16.06.2013

On 16 June 2013 at about 13:30, a witness in Paris noticed blue and pink lights in the sky when he put on sunglasses and immediately photographed them. He could see the iridescent reflections only through the sunglasses, although a photograph also shows the phenomenon. No other account was obtained. The appearance suggests iridescent clouds, but the source cites a Météo-France expert as saying that such a phenomenon occurs only around very high cirrus clouds, whereas the clouds here were high stratocumulus or altocumulus. GEIPAN classifies the case as B: an optical phenomenon probably caused by sunlight reflecting in the sunglasses and camera lens.
