On 7 July 2013, a witness attended an organized night-sky observing session. At its end, at 03:10, he saw a white point of light moving through the starry sky over Montchevret. Its path intrigued him: directly above his position, it appeared to turn 90° in less than 3 seconds toward the hamlet of Romandie. Terrain then blocked it from view. No trail or sound was noticed. No other account was collected.
GEIPAN notes that the account initially appears unusual because a point of light suddenly changes course and is not described as an aircraft. However, one satellite's visible track can end when it leaves sunlight close to where another satellite's track begins as it enters sunlight. If the tracks do not continue along the same line, an observer may perceive a single object changing course.
GEIPAN could not pursue that analysis because the witness did not cooperate adequately with information requests, providing incomplete answers or none despite reminders. The sighting occurred during a nighttime observing session organized by a UFO group. GEIPAN notes that this context may affect some participants' objectivity through mutual encouragement or a search for unusual phenomena, even without the witness realizing it. GEIPAN classifies the case C: insufficient reliable information.
