JAUNAY-CLAN (86) 11.07.2013

On Thursday 11 July 2013 at about 23:45, a witness in Jaunay-Clan (86) saw several luminous rectangular objects with rounded edges pass silently along the horizon, moving straight north to south. Because of their straight movement, GEIPAN considered windborne objects temporarily hidden by trees; see the witness's animation. Météociel recorded northeasterly wind, broadly matching the movement. An east-to-west component would mean a slight approach towards the witness and might not have been perceived. Jaunay-Clan adjoins Futuroscope, which hosts many summer night shows, but the park was outside the field of view. The local summer-evening programme opened on 11 July and might have involved festivities. However, the lights' direction of origin suggests a release by the Clain river north of Jaunay-Clan. The description suggests white or red sky lanterns. GEIPAN classifies the case B: probable sky lanterns.
