Case description
On 13 July 2013 between 23:30 and 23:40, a witness was intrigued by several luminous orange balls passing silently across the sky in succession. GEIPAN found that the account and photographs had all the characteristics of sky lanterns: orange balls moving with the wind, which was recorded as northeasterly at Cap Ferret. The time and date were also particularly favourable to such releases. GEIPAN classified the case B: probable sky lanterns.
