On 17 July 2013 at 23:58, a witness looking from a window saw a fireball descend through a clear sky. The description—an incandescent white object, very fast and without a trail—fully matches a fireball caused by a meteoroid entering the atmosphere. No automatic camera recorded it. GEIPAN nevertheless received a similar account from Saint-Germain-sur-Ille (35), at a reported 23:45, seen to the east moving north to south. The source describes the times as close. It notes that fireballs often seem nearby but occur at 100–50 km altitude and can be visible over an area about 200 km across. GEIPAN classifies the case B: probable fireball.
