BACHANT (59) 24.07.2013

On 24 July 2013 around midnight in Bachant (59), several people saw a luminous phenomenon move silently through the sky for a few seconds. GEIPAN finds the long, very bright trail strongly suggestive of a fireball: a meteoroid entering the atmosphere, becoming a meteorite if it reaches the ground. GEIPAN, IMCCE, Ciel des hommes and BOAM received many similar reports the preceding night, that night and subsequent nights. The source treats this as evidence that Earth passes through a region rich in small bodies, or meteor streams, at that time of year. However, this particular event was not fully characterised. The case is classified B: probable fireball.
