GONNEVILLE-LA-MALLET (76) 24.07.2013

On 24 July 2013 at midnight, a witness in Gonneville-la-Mallet (76) saw more than 10 flying objects of different shapes and behaviors within 30 minutes. No other account was collected. GEIPAN describes the report as atypical, with numerous apparently spectacular and varied phenomena. It finds the lack of other witnesses surprising unless the lights were fairly faint. In that case, satellites or meteors could explain them, as many were visible at that hour and season; see Calsky. The listing also includes 2 fairly spectacular Iridium flares. GEIPAN received a fireball case for the same day, BACHANT (59), 24.07.2013, and many witnesses reported bright meteors. The source notes that this season coincides with peaks of several meteor showers. Without precise sky positions, travel directions or photographs, GEIPAN classifies the case as C for lack of information. It considers the sighting probably a collection of phenomena with different origins.
