Around midnight on Friday 2 August 2013, a family in a car saw a bright-orange ball move quickly and silently through a clear sky before the landscape hid it.
GEIPAN considers its straight movement on a weekend night suggestive of a sky lantern. Mâcon recorded a southerly wind of 4–19 km/h. The witness was surprised by the speed; GEIPAN notes that a lantern moving straight at 19 km/h may be difficult to follow by car.
The case is classified B: probable sky lantern.
