Open this case in the interactive AtlasCase description
In the case dated 21 August 2013, the pilot of a Cessna 150 flying southwest of Metz (57), from Colmar to Liège, saw a small yellow ovoid object to the northwest. It appeared to travel north to south at high speed and at the same altitude. No duration was specified.
GEIPAN notes that an unknown object's distance cannot be reliably estimated, making the altitude uncertain. A very bright, distant object higher up could have been a meteoroid atmospheric entry or space debris; the source adds meteorite in parentheses after meteoroid. Space-Track reentry catalogues showed no space-debris entry that day. Since it was daylight, sunlight reflected from another aircraft was also possible. With insufficient information to support any hypothesis, GEIPAN classifies the case C.
