Case description
On Saturday 24 August 2013 at 22:00, people taking photographs noticed a sphere to the Moon's left. A witness photographed it and later noticed a second sphere in the image.
The photograph shows the Moon as a small white gibbous disk (see Stellarium chart). The 2 large luminous disks to its left are photographic artifacts, sometimes called orbs, caused by flash-lit dust or water droplets very close to the lens.
That does not explain the large luminous ball reportedly seen directly to the Moon's left, called the “second” ball in the analysis. Possibilities include a lunar halo, a stadium lamp (see the Google photograph) or something else. Because of that uncertainty and the photograph's failure to corroborate the direct sighting, GEIPAN classifies the case C: insufficient information.
