On 31 August 2013 between 22:40 and 23:00, an amateur astronomer observing from Chalmazel (42) with 2 friends noticed bursts of white light in Pegasus. The 2 other observers could not be interviewed, leaving only 1 account.
GEIPAN rates strangeness low and evidential consistency moderate. It favors a rapidly rotating satellite at very high altitude; see the investigation notes. At least 7 high-altitude satellites were in the viewing region during the reported interval. GEIPAN attributes the surprise to interpretation of only 4 brief flashes, rather than an error in visual perception. It classifies the case B: probable misidentification of a rapidly rotating high-altitude satellite.
