Case description
At 01:25 on the night of 7–8 September 2013, a couple in Saint-Loubès saw around 30 whitish points of light traveling together from east to west at a constant speed. They noticed no sound, trails or flashing lights. GEIPAN notes that dozens of lights flying together in a straight line on a Saturday-to-Sunday night are fairly common and strongly suggest sky lanterns, probably released after a wedding. The observer was 800 m from Château Saint-Aignan, which hosted a wedding meal that evening. The direction could not be correlated with the wind recorded at Bordeaux-Mérignac: it was very light and changed direction at least hourly, and the nearby Dordogne could cause local breezes. GEIPAN classifies the case as B: a probable sighting of sky lanterns.
