Open this case in the interactive AtlasCase description
On Sunday 22 September 2013 at 07:45, a witness walking to work in Salies-de-Béarn (64) saw a very thin, long red cylinder in the sky, moving faster than an aircraft he had seen earlier. It disappeared towards the southwest.
The investigation report finds the UAP's altitude and azimuth consistent with aircraft present then, and its appearance consistent with an aircraft lit by the rising Sun. GEIPAN concludes that it was probably an airliner at medium altitude illuminated by sunrise.
The account has good evidential substance and is fairly precise, but comes from a single witness with no photograph. Strangeness is low, with the unusual viewing conditions readily explainable.
The case is classified B: observation of an airliner at sunrise. The account is not precise enough to identify the particular aircraft among the many present.
