Case description
On October 30, 2013, between 6:50 and 8:30 p.m., three witnesses saw a red light appear and seemingly remain above a nearby forest. It disappeared, appeared again later and finally faded like a halogen lamp. Two people submitted accounts. GEIPAN considered sky lanterns despite the apparently stationary behaviour and the fact that it was not a Saturday. The source invokes Halloween as a possible release occasion; that is an explanation for the festive context, not a change to the October 30 event date. A telephone interview established a northwestward view with a light southeasterly wind behind the witness: an object receding along the line of sight could look stationary. A second light fifteen minutes later could represent another lantern following the same path. The case was classified B.
