On Wednesday 6 November 2013 at 18:00, several people saw an apparent ball of fire followed by oblique traces of the same fiery orange color. One witness filmed the scene; only 1 account was collected. Bright orange trails in the sunset sky strongly suggest distant aircraft contrails illuminated by the Sun already below the horizon. The video and Casperflights records confirm this, showing numerous airliners on routes between northern Europe and Spain, Portugal or Morocco. The first video shows an apparently vertical descending trail from an aircraft moving away from the witnesses. The other, horizontal trails came from aircraft traveling north to south about 50 km west of Pau. Exceptional weather made the display especially striking that evening.
