OSTWALD (67) 01.01.2014

On 1 January 2014 at about 00:08, a witness on a balcony in Ostwald (67) saw many red lights moving silently along a shared straight path through a cloudy sky. The analysis specifies 23 lights; the summary says about 20. GEIPAN finds them characteristic of sky lanterns commonly released after celebrations, especially at New Year. Weather records show light winds from southwest at 23:00, south at 00:00 and southeast at 01:00. Although the witness rejected sky lanterns, GEIPAN classifies the case B: probable sky lanterns. It judged that the low strangeness of such a sighting around midnight on New Year's Day did not justify a field investigation.
