Case description
On 7 January 2014 at about 22:00, a witness in Le Grand-Bornand (74) saw about 15 blue or white lights moving rapidly and silently to the south, toward La Clusaz behind Mount Danay.
The nightclub “le bal” in La Clusaz, about 4 km south of the observation point, used a laser every night, including weekdays. It projected a white spot rapidly tracing circles in the sky. The observation ending as the sky cleared supports reflections of that laser on clouds.
The witness, familiar with the area, did not believe it was a nightclub laser. The gendarmerie report noted that he had taken IXPRIM that day, an analgesic containing tramadol. The source states that hallucinations are a rare possible effect and prints the internally uninformative frequency range “1/100 to 1/100.” GEIPAN therefore considered possible medication-related effects on perception. It classifies the case B: probable nightclub laser projections on clouds.
